Vote now! Surf and Turf for Cooking Cup 2009

Yes, this is a call for YOU to vote on how to present our dish at the 2009 Cooking Cup on July 15th. Please let me/us know which version you prefer in the comments! Thanks in advance for helping us out. Also, if you have better ideas (I am not snooty enough to think we are having the best ideas in the world, thank God!), please let me/us know. Your input is very much appreciated, and in case we make it to the semi-finals, you´ll be part of the success, and I promise I´ll drop your name.

So, this is what we are talking about: a Surf&Turf of Fillet of Beef and Prawn with Orange-Cranberry Rice, Chorizo-stuffed Dates, Green Thai Asparagus with Avocado-Mint-Mousse and Chorizo-Jus. No recipes yet because we´re still in the experimental stage, but I promise I will hand those over the minute we´re done with our preliminaries. My american mum, B., is already begging for me to type them, so no need to be worried.

But down to business now. These are the two versions that I have tried out already:

Version 1:
Version 2:
Question 1: Which plate? I/we do favour the square one.

Question 2: How to arrange the components.
a) Date on top of the rice? Would mean we´d need a larger rice circle, but so what.
b) All components in one line, or rather in a circle? Or just like they are in one of the versions?
c) Two prawns on top of the beef, lying on the side (version 2), or one prawn upright (version 1)?

You see, we really need your help on this. Our brains just don´t want to spit out stuff any more - we´ve already come up with the whole dish. So off to the comments section - can´t wait to read your ideas!

  1. I wish you good luck ,but what do you need it for ...the picture with the plates are delicious-looking...
i like the second ,but i think the OC-rise in the middle of the plate is better and one prawn upright!

  2. I kinda favour the second, too - but I think you´re right, the rice should sit in the middle, and the date on the far left. Thanks a lot for your help!

  3. Okay, question 1 is an easy one! Plate 1 (square one) is much more professional looking and state of the art.

As for question 2 ... I prefer the rice placed in the middle.

Just to give you another idea: is it possible to bundle the asparagus with something eatable? I am thinking of something like "Melanzane" or the calssical ham? It's just an idea!

I believe your dish is already a real perfect one! I'm already crossing my fingers (for warm-up). ;-)

  4. Hi Gianni,

thanks for the compliment and your thoughts towards the dish. Bundling the asparagus might be an option, but no ham since the dates are already wrapped in bacon. We´ll definitely give it a shot - luckily, we have two more weeks to practice, toss and turn ;)

Thanks for your support, it´s highly appreciated!

  5. hey ho, great pics and sorry for my bad English...Just a short idea...what's about taking the first plate, put some asparagus in the middle, put the filet on it and one prawn on top? on the left side the rice with something green and on the other side the avocado-mousse with a date...

on the other side, the first plate looks professional and i think you'll gonna rock in braunschweig:-)

    cossing the fingers, H.

  6. Hey there,

that is actually a really good idea, with the asparagus as kind of a podest... I would have never thought about that! I will DEFINITELY try that out before we rock Braunschweig.
    Thanks a million!
